2022 Africa Week: Reviving the African Arts and Culture in Diaspora

Africa is such a wonderful continent with a rich blend of arts and cultures. The beauty of African arts can not be overemphasized as it expresses nature and holds values that are dear to the heart of Africans. Due to the diversity of culture and uniqueness of one art over another, one may not be able to unanimously characterize the elements associated with these arts. Some African arts are purely aesthetic while others are rooted in entertainment, history, spiritual or moral values. More often, African arts are a mixture of more than one element. Despite the beauty of African arts and culture, there exists little or no awareness of these beauty outside the walls of Africa. In a bid to further promote the frontiers of African culture, the Korea-Africa Foundation (KAF) held the 2022 Africa Week from May 25, 2022 to June 7, 2022 to enhance the understanding of diverse Africans and strengthen the partnership between Korea and Africa. The 2022 Africa Week starts with an opening reception on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 followed by two different talk shows ‘Africa Talk Concert’ where diplomats from South Africa, Rwanda, Angola, Kenya, Tanzania and youths share their unique stories and experiences about Africa. The 2022 KAF Africa Week also featured an Arts Exhibition where beautiful arts such as the ‘City Safari’, and ‘Great Leader’ were displayed from May 25, 2022 to June 6, 2022, and on the third day of June 2022, KAF hosted an ‘Africa Overland Performance‘ with Mr. Hareem, Honorary Ambassador of KAF, singer and cultural planner. The performance was one of its kind as it did not only promote African entertainment but also utilized the diverse African instruments to deliver an awesome performance. It was like a virtual trip to Africa. The 2022 KAF Africa Week was a colorful and a memorable event and I am pretty sure you wouldn’t want to miss out on the next one.
